What a weird day. Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and inaugurate a president that is filled with hate. It's hard to put words to the irony of this moment.
I just finished listening to a choir sing "We Shall Overcome" and I am choosing to believe that this is true. As a human race we have gone through much worse and we will move past this moment- if we choose to.
Faith in this moment is so important. We need to believe that there is a greater plan and that we are being held. But, while we surrender to a higher power, we also need to understand that we are responsible for doing the work.

There is no one coming to rescue us. We are the ones that we've been waiting for. And it's not each of us individually, it's us collectively. Together we can create a world with more peace, more justice, more health and more sustainability.
The big question is how?
The word that keeps coming to mind is community. We need to get out and meet people outside of our circles. We need to reach across the aisle and call people in.
We don't need to talk about politics, we need to talk about our shared experiences as human beings. This is how we remind ourselves that we are all in this together. I think we forgot.
I made the decision last night to take Instagram off of my phone. I have been reposting political memes like crazy and feeling like I was doing something. Sharing posts with our carefully curated "followers" is not helpful AT ALL. It's a powerful distraction at best.
Friends, we need to put down our phones and take it to the streets. More rallying, more community dialogues, more calls and letters to politicians and more chats with our neighbors.
Yes, we shall overcome, but not without a fight. We've been dormant and now it's time to wake up and get back to being human. We're not focusing on clothing trends and skincare for now- we're focusing on identifying our purpose and using our gifts and talents to serve others.
We're taking exceptional care of ourselves and pouring love onto others.
We shall overcome. Keep on saying it until you believe it. Say it to yourself, and say it to others.
If you need to grieve today, grieve. But tomorrow we rise and we lift as many people with us as possible.
As always, thanks for reading and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, thoughts or to find out how you can work with me.
Be well,
Kellie
“When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
