Stop hating on Trump and his supporters.

Liberal friends, enough wishing ill on people who voted for Trump. We are not going to heal the wounds of American society by creating more negativity. Hate and judgment is what got us here, therefore, it cannot get us to where we need to go. Now is the time for empathy and compassion.
Hear me out.
It is not some liberal politician who is going to get us out of this mess. There is no one coming to rescue us. Period end of story. We are the ones we've been waiting for. And no, I'm not talking about liberals. I'm talking about people from all walks of life coming together and recognizing our shared humanity or simply our value of democracy. It is the collective that can change the course of our nation and nothing else.
I hear so many of my liberal friends saying things like "fuck around and find out" or "I want to see them suffer". Many are actively cutting people out of their lives who support Trump. To that I say, how convenient. If you dismiss people then you get to stay nice and comfortable on your throne in your glass castle. You don't have to have hard conversations. You don't have to admit how you uphold systems that exploit or oppress others. And most importantly, you don't have to acknowledge all the ways that you've failed to do your civic duty. Nope, you simply just blame folks who voted for Trump.
If you're getting upset with me, take a deep breath and read on. Perhaps consider this a test. Can you sit with the discomfort of someone telling you something you don't want to hear? I believe we got here in part because most folks are unable to do just that. Most Americans have carefully curated a life of comfort and security- they only engage with media that reflects their point of view and they dismiss anyone or anything that challenges their beliefs or values.
It's time to look yourself in the mirror friend. How did you contribute to Trump becoming president? Do you buy products from companies that support him? Do you work for a company that supports him? Do you drive a Tesla? Have you attended a protest in the last four years? Did you call or write to your local politicians? Are you involved in local politics? Do you volunteer or make donations to organizations that are working to stop Trump? Did you engage in conversations with people who planned to vote for Trump to understand what matters to them? Did you canvas for Kamala Harris or other dems running in your area? Did you make phone calls or send text messages for dems?
You get my point. Your hate is about you. And likely it's causing you harm. Ever heard the saying, "holding a grudge is like drinking poison and thinking it will kill your enemy".
That's exactly what all the anger, resentment and bitterness for Trump and his supporters will do. You are suffering and Trump is still doing what he does...
Stop spending so much time worrying about what Trump and those who support him are doing and start looking at what you're doing. Hold yourself to the fire. What did you not do? What are you STILL doing to continue to support Trump? Take responsibility for yourself. Then send empathy and compassion to yourself, Trump and those who support him. Not for them, for you.
We have work to do friends. Stop wasting time playing the blame game- use your gifts, talents and resources to resist.
MLK said it best:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
“Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.”
“I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
As always, thanks for reading. Please reach out with any questions or to find out how we can work together.
Be well,
Kellie
