I know, I know. Sometimes it's hard to feel grateful, especially when everything seems to be going wrong. I get it. But I swear on my life, there is is always something to be grateful for.
It can be as simple as waking up in the morning and saying "thank you" because you woke up. Just fully appreciating what a blessing it is to be alive is magical. You might be stuck or you might not have everything you want, but you're here and that's something my friend. It means you still have the opportunity to create the life you want.
"An attitude of gratitude" doesn't always come naturally. You may have been raised by negative people, gotten knocked down by life or maybe you're just living life on cruise control. On top of whatever your story may be, we live in a society that is constantly filling us with a sense of lack. Every day we're bombarded with marketing messages that we aren't enough and we definitely don't have enough. These messages leave us feeling anxious, inadequate, depressed and so, it makes perfect sense that you may be stuck in a funk and always feeling like you're lacking. This is why the practice of gratitude will transform your life.
For years I hated my body because I'm covered, HEAD-TO-TOE in stretch marks. I started getting them when I was 10 years old and for all of my childhood and most of my adulthood I dismissed myself because of these imperfections. I couldn't appreciate ANYTHING else about my body. Luckily, I started practicing gratitude for other small things in my life, which eventually led me to practicing gratitude for my body. I'm grateful for my health, my strength and the beautiful one-of-a-kind shade of brown I am. I don't love my stretch marks, but I can now see BEYOND them. Seeing beyond them gave me the courage to wear the clothes I wanted to without worrying someone might see my blemishes, to pursue my life long dream of modeling, and most recently, I gained the confidence to compete in bodybuilding competitions. NONE of this would have been possible without practicing gratitude.
When you shift your focus to what you have to be grateful for you create more positive energy in your life. This positive energy allows you to start to see everyone and everything differently... you know through those "rose colored" lenses. When you're operating in this way new opportunities will present themselves. Sometimes the people and opportunities you desired were already there but you weren't able to see them.
Practicing gratitude is easy, free and it's a choice. I'm challenging you to start right now by commenting on this blog post with 1 thing you're grateful for. Then for the next 7 days I want you to write down 5 things you're grateful for either in the morning or evening. Please comment on my social media or here with gratitude statements and/or how it's going! I believe we can spread more positivity and light when we first inject it into our own lives. And LORDT knows we could all use a lot more positive energy these days. So give yourself a chance to see your life differently and spread some live at the same time by the simple act of practicing gratitude right now :)
